Abstract:
Women in traditional sociéties of précolonial Africa were not marginalized. Some were leaders of communities and others queens in kingdoms. The armed force of a village and kingdoms or empires was made up of women. Theywere the ones who ensured their security and they went to the front during the war. Economically, women were at the heart of efforts to feed the family and the community or population. They engaged in subsistence agriculture, commerce, livestock breeding and fishing. Womenwere religious authorities of fetishism which is the religion of the african ancestors. Health, called traditional medicine, was also an activity of women before the colonization. At the same time, the marriage was essential. It was the woman who gave the life and african society was matrilineal and she ensured the education of the child. Therefore, the posture of the precolonial african woman was of capital importance.
